The City of Toronto sets a standard the world over for sophistication, multiculturalism and safety. Here neighbourhoods are diverse and friendly. Ethnic pockets boast magnificent dining and warm local charm. The main thoroughfares pulse with life and energy. Torontonians love food. We love to eat outdoors in summer at our many fine alfresco dining spots, which often reflect the culture of the neighbourhood the restaurant is set in. People watching is extraordinary--from upscale Yorkville/Bloor Street, or the Greek Mediteraninian/Danforth to family Beach district or the urban funky Queen Street East. Shopping is world class. Museums, galleries and artist communities make Toronto a mecca for the creative and inspired. The new Gooderam and Worts Distillery district is like a small European town boasting theatres, studios, galleries, and cafés for endless hours of pleasure. Unique to Toronto is the profusion of green space. Many neighbourhoods are built around ravines and parklands. You are never more than 10 minutes from lush natural settings all year round. Fine schools--both public and private--parks and child-centered activities make Toronto a major city that is great to raise kids in. This is a unique feature, as most urban centers seem geared exclusively to adults. Torontonians are proud of their city. Its cleanliness, class and convenience make this the dream community to set down roots in. One of the first things to know if you are relocating and are unfamiliar with the market here is property prices tend to be higher in the Toronto area than in outlying regions (like prices tend to be in any cosmopolitan urban area). That is the "cost" of having an abundance of art and culture at your fingertips. Therefore, if you plan to move here you should know that the average price of homes is similar to the price of luxury properties or executive homes in outlying areas. We feel the cost of living in Toronto and North York is well worth it, but we want you to know about this up front, so you are not surprised! Toronto is a city of many wonderful neighbourhoods. Each of these has its own identity and idiosycrases and they contribute to this wonderful community we call Toronto. There are many guides to the city that have been published and are available to purchase. We want to give you a few highlights of some of the neighbourhoods in our city. DOWNTOWN Toronto starts at Harbourfront, offering many cultural and recreational activities and is the mecca of condo living. There are many cultural pockets in the downtown area, such as LITTLE ITALY and SOUTH ANNEX, each adding its own heritage and characteristics. In the midtown area there are two very prestigious neighbourhoods, ROSEDALE and FOREST HILL. ROSEDALE has held the distinction of being Toronto’s finest address. Many of the most prominent and wealthy reside here. It is surrounded by parks and ravines, which makes you think you are in the country yet you are only steps to the finest restaurants, shops and theatres. Many of the homes were built in the 1880 to 1930 range, of which some are on the historical list; however, there are also condos, co-ops that are very affordable. The prices can go from $300,000 for the apartments and up to the millions for some of the homes. FOREST HILL is beautiful and prestigious with its only competitor being Rosedale. It has many parkettes and sloping, winding tree-lined streets. Many of the mansions were built in the 1920’s and 1930's. The prices start at about $1,000,000 for Upper Village homes, which were built in the 1940's, 1950's, and are more modestly priced. There are many fine private schools as well as excellent public schools. CHAPLIN ESTATES, ALLENBY, AND NORTH TORONTO, located in central Toronto, offer homes built in the 1920’s as well as new modern dwellings. The schools are excellent and the area is close to many fine shops, restaurants and recreational activity. The price range is about $400,000 to over a million. DANFORTH VILLAGE, RIVERDALE and LESLIEVILLE Each with its own signature located in Toronto’s central east home styles are semi detached, detached, bungalow, and new town homes. The prices range from $200,000 to around $700,000 to $800,000. The subway is convenient as well as are many ethnic shops, shopping, and food. There's a "Greek Town" on the Danforth and "Little India" on Gerrard. WILLOWDALE Located in the north area of the city, this area boasts of luxury condos, new custom built homes, cozy brick and frame bungalows, and newer split level. The area is very cosmopolitan with its shopping, theatre, restaurants and office towers, as well as its excellent schools. The price range of homes is $300,000 -$1,000,000 plus. LITTLE ITALY Most major North American cities only have one "Little Italy"; Toronto has two in the downtown alone. Shopping features; European fashions, authentic Italian and Portuguese eateries, fabulous bakeries and fresh fruit and vegetable markets. Originally being mainly an Italian and Portuguese neighborhood, it now has many different nationalities, making it a very multicultural area. The houses were originally built in the late 1800’s, being mostly attached Victorian homes. There is new development attracting people to this lively downtown area. Price range is about $250,000 to $650,000. ANNEX This area is very diverse: There are business people, artists, students, faculty from the University of Toronto. The liveliness of this neighbourhood comes from the University and many restaurants, bars, nightclubs along Bloor Street. The houses were built in the late 1800’s to the 1930’s. The former are architecturally impressive and the latter a little simpler, nevertheless charming. The area offers much historical prominence; the price range is about $350,000 to over $1,000,000. When walking the BLOOR WEST VILLAGE a certain trend will begin to appear. You may notice how certain shops in the area are always bustling with traffic. These shops are the local meat, fruit and pastry markets. Although it may not seem so, these businesses are the foundation of Bloor West Village's economic growth. When one thinks of BLOOR WEST VILLAGE, various images of shopping or hanging out might come to mind. But for those who live in the community, or are very familiar with this community, they likely think of the lovely homes in the neighbourhood. They're all pretty remarkable. Like most upscale communities in Toronto, once you leave the 'main drag' and venture into the side streets, you are immediately aware of the quiet and private quality. Original homes were built in the early 1900's, featuring beautiful wood accents and fireplaces. The prices range from about $300,000 to about $999,000. FREE RELOCATION PACKAGE!
